Cruise Passenger Information
Kia ora, welcome to the coastal Bay of Plenty located on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
The region is centred around the cosmopolitan city of Tauranga as well as the coastal suburbs of Mount Maunganui and Papamoa. It includes towns such as Te Puke the ‘kiwifruit capital of the world’ and Katikati – New Zealand’s mural town. It is the country’s fastest growing region with a warm sunny climate and beautiful white sand beaches; one visit and you’ll understand why Kiwis want to live here and vacation here.
The Bay of Plenty records an average of 2,225 hours of sunshine per annum and the average temperate in summer is 24° Celsius (75° Fahrenheit) and some days can be much hotter than this.
The city hosts a range of annual events from air shows and jazz festivals to national multisport events, beach volleyball and surfing contests.
Mount Maunganui or Mauao as it is known to local Maori (indigenous people of New Zealand) is a dormant volcano that stands at the entrance to the harbour. Mauao has a number of walking tracks to the summit and around the base which are used by nearly a million people each year.
