New to dining in New Zealand? Here are some pointers to ensure you have an enjoyable dining experience.

Tipping, although welcome, is not expected.
BYO (bring your own) is very common in restaurants and means you can bring in your own beer or wine (the policy varies). You usually have to pay a corkage fee. (The drinking age in New Zealand is 18)
Reservations are recommended, especially in the summer time, during public holidays and school holidays.
Many cafes, bars and restaurants apply a surcharge for the services they provide on public holidays to recover the additional labour costs incurred for trading on the day.
